Prior to his new position at the University of Maine he was Assistant Professor at the University of Bremen, Germany, heading the Human-Robot Interaction Laboratory. He was co-principal investigator of three German Research Foundation projects at the Spatial Cognition Collaborative Research Centre. The core of his research is centred on the development of a unified theory for the representation of spatial knowledge.
